An accomplished and versatile classical guitarist, Michael Gaspar has performed professionally as a soloist and with various well-known musical groups in the local music and entertainment scene over the years. Michael won the Grand Prix awards in the 1985 and 1986 Singapore Guitar Festival Ensemble Section and the Distinguished Award in the 1992 Singapore Guitar Festival 1992 Solo Classical Section.

Michael started teaching the classical guitar at Yamaha Music School and various guitar ensembles in 1988.  The schools include Victoria Junior College (1988 to 2017),  Nanyang Polytechnic (1994 to 2017), Raffles Institution (1996 to 2017), St Joseph’s Institution (2002 to 2017), Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School Secondary (2002 to 2017),  Raffles Junior College (2004 to 2017), Anglo Chinese School Independent (2004 to 2017), Temasek Polytechnic (2004 to 2006), Chung Cheng High Main (2003 to 2006) and St Anthony’s Canossian Convent (2000 to 2004).   Michael continues to provide mentorship and musical direction to some of these ensembles through his music education company.

Michael has been renowned for the successes of these guitar ensembles under his baton, particularly with acclaimed standards in the previous Singapore Youth Festivals Central Judging and the current SYF Arts Presentation.  Since 1997, guitar ensembles under his musical direction and baton have attained the highest awards performing mainly his arrangements and compositions.

Since 2002, the National Arts Council-Arts Education Programmes has endorsed various music enrichment and exposure programmes developed by Michael. These music programmes have received rave reviews from schools, junior colleges, and polytechnics that have implemented them.

In June 2017, Michael attained the Fellowship, Trinity College London (FTCL) in Music Education.  His research dissertation, “Perspectives in Guitar Ensemble Education in Singapore: The Role of Guitar Music Educators in Raising National Standards in Guitar Ensemble Music” received an outstanding report from Trinity College, London examiners.

In September 2017, Michael left Singapore for London to pursue the Master of Arts in Music Education and Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. He attained merit for his masters and scored a distinction for his dissertation entitled, “A commentary: Professional development of Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) guitar ensemble instructors”. The commentary entails a study on social impact attainment via cutting edge facilitation and reflective thinking of his guitar ensemble methodology books Volume 1 and 2. The framework has been introduced and implemented in the United Kingdom and Singapore’s guitar ensemble fraternities respectively.

With his vast experiences as a musician, educator, mentor, and music business owner, Michael lectures and leads various music management and project modules at SRMC and oversees their curriculum development.

Sheila Rosilawaty Binte Ngalimen earned an MBA in Hospitality Management, Queen Margaret University. She also acquired the BSc in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of Wales, Prifysgol Cymru-UK. and has a Diploma of Business Studies from the Alexander Institute of Technology, Perth, Western Australia. Earned Diploma in TESOL, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Distinctions).

Sheila heads the English Department and she brings a wealth of experience with her. She has taught in the mainstream schools in Singapore as an Adjunct Teacher, as well as in the International School arena as Assistant Director of Studies.

She has vast experience ranging from working in the corporate world as a Manager to being an educator, mentor and coach. She has also travelled vastly during the cause of her work and study, and her experience is portrayed through her warm personality and interactions with the people around her.
