ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PERFORMANCE & RECORDING)
I am doing the Advanced Diploma in Music, more specifically the Performance and Recording Track course. I aspire to become a singer/songwriter so being in a course that teaches you how to become a better performer, while helping you know more about the production side of music is very important to me.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PERFORMANCE & RECORDING)
My course combines both performance and recording, which really complements each other. To add on, the recording studio of the college also gave me many opportunities to do recording sessions and learn from industry experts.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PERFORMANCE & RECORDING)
I have chosen to study in Singapore Raffles Music College among all the Arts College I have looked at as I was interested in the Performance and Recording aspects that SRMC offers, as I am looking forward to creating an amazing fusion between Eastern and Western music in the future.
I learnt more about the fusion of the Gu Qin together with other music forms. I have gained a lot of knowledge through the Performance and Recording modules, which I believe will help with my job in the future.

Age has no barriers to learning.
Experiences no limit to share.
Knowledge no end to learning.
Our lecturers and instrument mentors have made learning so learnable that the joy of achieving generates more determination and drive to learn even more.
This is what the SRMC is all about: Drive, Quest, Determination, Care and Fulfilment.
音乐高级大专课程
I had the chance to work with music students from many different countries. Studying in SRMC has also taught me that Music is a way for people of different backgrounds to communicate.
One advise to all students would be to be attentive during classes, practice to improve, don’t be lazy!
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND RECORDING
I chose Singapore Raffles Music College (SRMC) because I’ve always wanted to be a drummer but, at the same time, wanted to explore my creative side as a producer and a mixing engineer.
My advice as a Musician would be:
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PERFORMANCE & RECORDING)
I found out about Singapore Raffles Music College (SRMC) when I was looking for a music college in Singapore on the internet to pursue my passion in music.
I am grateful to be in this course since I can study both the performance side and the production side of music.
I personally admire the quality of Singapore’s art education, I like the environment and the resources available provided by the school and the government (libraries). Before I came to Singapore, I was very excited to learn new things, new culture, explore the education system and the industry in Singapore.
I found the multicultural aspect of Singapore quite intriguing, getting to know how different cultures turn out to behave in a shared space, the food, the “singlish” language. It was fun to get in touch with Singapore’s unique culture.
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE - LEVEL 6
In Singapore Raffles Music College, you are able to cultivate good interpersonal relationship, and also learn a variety of music knowledge, which lays a good foundation for future work. There are loads of opportunities to perform (such as the weekly school concerts), making us more natural on stage.
I’ve met a lot of good friends here in SRMC. The cultural difference makes our usual communication interesting. The atmosphere in the classroom is relaxed so that we can learn knowledge in a joyful manner.
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE - LEVEL 6
There is so much more to learn about being a musician in SRMC other than just being proficient in my instrument.
Since I plan on running my own music school after I graduate to teach special needs children, learning and studying with students from all over the world teaches me how to communicate with people with different backgrounds, which will in turn help with my goal.
I think that Singapore’s music sounds really good, and it is only a matter of time before Singapore’s music will be recognised all over the world. 🙂
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND RECORDING
My favorite lesson in Singapore Raffles Music College would be the Chinese Instrument Ensemble classes, as Guqin is usually a solo instrument to be played, and we rarely see it be combined with other instruments. I got the chance to try to learn about the skills needed to combine Guqin into an ensemble, and it was an interesting experience.
The school has gave us a lot of opportunities to perform (such as charity performances etc), and I have learned a lot during these external performances. It gave me a chance to build up my stage experiences.
One advice I would give new students would be to choose your Principal Studies major carefully before you enroll in the course, it should be something that you really enjoy, and it will keep you motivated.
Another one would be for new overseas students to not be shy and have the courage to try everything.
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND RECORDING
I am classically trained but I chose to major in contemporary piano as I wanted to explore more genres. I sing for school events as singing has been a hobby of mine since I was young. There are many electives the school offers and I have been in Chinese Ensemble, Western Ensemble, Dance Ensemble, Pop Ensemble, and Piano Ensemble. I have also been in the Student Council for a year, helping to plan events for student welfare.
I like that we can do both performance and recording modules in one course because not many institutions allow that. The teachers in the recording faculty are from the industry and hence are able to teach us very relevant things that would help us.
SRMC gave me the opportunity to perform more, as well as explore my other interests other than my major, such as singing. The two main takeaways would be that I was able to write my originals and have the help from my teachers to learn to produce it, and being able to participate in recording projects.
One piece of advice I would give to SRMC’s be students would be to have the courage to pursue music no matter what others say.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (RECORDING)
I found out about Singapore Raffles Music College through Lee Wei Song and Lee Si Song.
SRMC is a new phase of my life where it provides me with the knowledge and environment to grow. I get to sing and perform every week and further nurture my production skills such as arranging as we often work on the DAW.
SRMC allows me to grow my musicality and opportunities to perform at various school events.
Advice to new students: Make use of your time wisely and practise hard!
BA (HONS) MUSIC MANAGEMENT
I planned to spend my college time in Singapore, as I really like the country. I have searched for various other music and art schools, but SRMC is the only one that focuses on music.
The part that I like the most about management is that SRMC provides chances for us to practice (such as helping the school concert every week and participating in the school’s activities). That brings lots of fun to me. We had the chance to work with a real manager from the Esplanade during our lecture. That is a perfect experience for me.
I think what SRMC taught me most is the experience. We had the chance to practice and connect with the celebrities. Sometimes the college also provides masterclasses for us to have a face-to-face experience with famous people.
My advice to the new students would be to study hard and make full use of their duration in Singapore.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (RECORDING)
The reason why I chose Singapore Raffles Music College is that it has performance & recording course. I think it’s a good combination for me to not only focus on performance but the recording aspect of music as well.
SRMC provides plenty of opportunities for me. As this is my last year (2020), one of my main takeaways would be the memories with my bandmates and friends
My advice to our fellow juniors would be to jam and play more with your bandmates!
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND RECORDING
Singapore Raffles Music College awarded me with a full scholarship, so I decided to use the time to improve myself as a musician and teacher.
With the course that I am taking, I’m learning a lot about recording which I didn’t have exposure to before.
An interesting experience that I had at SRMC was the Perth Music immersion tour in 2019, which allowed me to see first-hand how complex it was to organize a tour. I’ve also got the chance to volunteer at the Orientale Concentus, helping to manage contestants and run another international event.
My advice to you would be to learn English, keep practicing and know what you want to improve upon, and work towards it. As a musician, keep challenging yourself and don’t just compare yourself to those around you. Work towards being of an international standard and work harder and smarter.
BA (HONS) MUSIC MANAGEMENT
One of the modules that I really like is the Professional Skills For The Music Industry And Academia. The tutor takes us to the library to study. It taught us how to cooperate and create a good environment that benefited our studies and team spirit.
SRMC provides opportunities to participate and help out in the annual festivals and competitions. Providing assistance for these participants was a pleasure and I’ve learned a lot from it (such as stage set up and procedures about a competition).
At SRMC, you will be able to learn a variety of knowledge. It teaches you different cultures of music from different countries. You can make friends from different countries here, and it is a good place to improve your English language.
DIPLOMA IN MUSIC
I was intrigued by SRMC because the college focuses on pop, and not a lot of music schools do that, especially in Asia.
I love my course because I’ve gotten a huge number of chances to perform and do projects with my schoolmates. Not only that, I do feel the impact of the course, especially from the principle studies class. It’s amazing how the teacher has specific vocal warm-ups, techniques, and body movements made just for me.
One of my takeaways from SRMC would be that music is not just music. But music also comes with little things such as showmanship. Groove and confidence on stage are very important for musicians since they’ll help the audience to engage during the performance. Another thing would probably be teamwork. In SRMC, especially if you work in group projects like band and choir, it’s all about teamwork and communication between teammates. There were times where my performances were a bit messy, particularly because of the lack of communication. So, COMMUNICATION IS KEY FOR MUSICIANS, especially if you’re in a band.
I like the environment. I like how very respectful every person that I’ve met here is, most of them don’t judge, which is very nice. And the music here is very broad, they’re very open about pop music, and other music from other cultures.
BA (HONS) MUSIC MANAGEMENT
I have chosen SRMC as I was looking for a college that has a course that focuses on the management aspect in the Music Industry, as I believe that it is important to have both musicality and business management skills so as to excel further in the current music field.
I find it really useful that I am gaining the fundamental management knowledge on how to plan concerts, festivals, the yearly schedule of an artiste, accounting, contracts, copyright laws, marketing and promotion, and many more from my course.
There are many opportunities for a music management student, which includes the stage management of events such as masterclasses and weekly school concert. This allows me to apply what I learned in class and gain more hands-on experience.
As a songwriter, I was also able to gain the opportunity to compose for SRMC’s Christmas song project, which is open for all students in school to participate in.
A personal takeaway from SRMC would be from the different types of people I meet. Everyone has different goals, work ethics, and learning mentality.
The music industry has become a competitive battlefield, if this field of work is what you wish to pursue, be prepared to work your socks off, as opportunities are given to those who are ready.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PERFORMANCE)
What I like about SRMC is the lecturers and the overall environment. I have gained much knowledge of the professional industry.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MUSIC (PERFORMANCE)
The study of my main instrument on a personal and one-on-one basis with professor Luo Sung Yung has been a very enriching experience. Aside from that, the syllabus covering music theory in depth with excellent guidance from teachers like Dr Chua is possibly one of the best things the course has to offer.
I feel the way SRMC keeps its students busy in creative pursuits through a persistently musical environment helps them grow not only as performers, but also as organizers and creative thinkers. The experience gathered from working in so many different kinds of projects would definitely be one of my main takeaways from the college.
I was definitely worried about keeping up with the course, having never experienced formal music education. However, my professors and classmates have been helpful and encouraging in such a way that I never felt disadvantaged in the slightest.
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE - LEVEL 6
As a music student, I was also provided with other opportunities like music event planning!
BMUS (HONS) MUSIC PERFORMANCE AND RECORDING
I chose SRMC when I found out that they offer a recording course that I was interested in.
I really like the facilities, the talented and helpful lecturers.
SRMC has helped me a lot in building my musicality stronger, and it has also helped me in producing my first single.
My advice to the students will be:
DONT SKIP CLASS
PRACTICE OFTEN
CERTIFICATE IN MUSIC
I had the chance to participate in a Christmas project during my first semester here. I worked with a lot of seniors on this project, and they are all very friendly and caring towards me.
One of my favourite things about SRMC would be the Friday Rhapsody. I enjoyed it the most!
SRMC has taught me the importance of teamwork. I had a lot of chances to work with other students on various projects (during ensemble lessons, school internal projects, etc.) and learned that being in an ensemble requires a connection and teamwork with the instrumentalists.
I worried the most about not knowing anyone in this place and the language barrier between me and the others. Eventually, I realised that the teachers and classmates are all really helpful and friendly. If I had any questions and uncertainty, they would always explain them to me patiently.
